GI Dysfunction

Chronic Bloating, heart burn, upper abdominal discomfort/pain, indigestion, constipation and diarrhea

Why do I always feel bloated, stomach or lower belly hurt, belching and gas, fullness after a meal, nausea and vomiting, constipation or diarrhea? There many conditions may cause those symptoms, such as stomach ulcer, GERD, gastroparesis (a condition that stomach does not empty properly), gallbladder problems, stomach infection, irritable syndrome, Pancreas or thyroid diseases.

Some medications may also cause those symptoms, such as Aspirin or another pain relievers, antibiotics, or steroids. One’s lifestyle also play a role, such as eating too much, too fast, when one is stressed, high fat foods, drinking too much alcohol or smoking. Other causes include lactose or gluten intolerance.

There are tests to help your doctor to find out what is the specific cause that leads to your symptoms, such as blood tests, x-ray of your stomach or small intestine, upper endoscopy or colonoscopy. Treatment will depend on what is causing your symptoms.

Unfortunately, in many cases, your doctor could not find any causes for your symptoms. All the diagnostic tests came out negative or normal, yet you are still suffering. For example, in case of irritable bowel syndrome.

To help these patients, we have developed an integrative approach for treating patients with those symptoms based on my years of experience in practicing integrative medicine and treating the patients with many of those symptoms. This approach treats each patient as a unique individual based on their clinical presentation, overall health status and genetic feature. We spend time with the patient to get to know her or him, then create a individualized treatment plan for just this patient.
